Helena Robinson

Helena Robinson: A contemporary African American artist, Helena Robinson was born in Boise, Idaho in 1965. Her passage through the art world began in grade school and by junior high; she was already respected as an artist by her teachers and peers. Helena is the product of a diversified military upbringing where she journeyed the world and interacted with various cultures. Her artwork unifies the essence of her journeys by taking the exotic and blending it with the commonplace. Helena's individual style incorporates dark but subtle nuances of color and shadow, rich textures, and representations of everyday life. She works in an array of mediums to include color pencil, acrylic paint, pencil, watercolor, charcoal, oil paint, mixed medium, and wood burning. Her artwork often focuses on emotions portrayed through or by the eyes. While Helena's original field of study was Fine Arts, to avoid mixing her love of art with the necessity of work, she graduated from college with an MBA in Technology Management. However, Helena felt her creative juices bubbling, so while living in California, she taught art, worked and showed her artwork at the Yuba City Art Gallery, and had numerous shows and exhibitions. She is currently residing in Charlottesville, VA. "Art, though viewed with the eyes should always be felt by the heart. It should make you feel something…the feelings induced could be happy, sad, angry, or mad, but never indifferent." Says Helena Robinson. view work
